Applicant Evaluation
R1 reviews the academic background, work experience, and motivation underlying an applicant's
decision to apply to graduate school. Then we assess whether or not they are qualified to apply
to graduate school and if R1's service will be suitable for them.
Study Plan
If an applicant is qualified to apply to graduate school and is accepted as a client, R1 works
closely with them to develop a study plan that will help them to maximize their test scores
in the shortest possible time period.
Graduate School Research
Before an applicant begins to prepare their essays and applications with R1, they must conduct
research on their degree program. After learning their specific interests in graduate studies,
R1 helps clients to select appropriate target schools.
Application Strategy Development
Once an applicant’s study plan has been prepared and appropriate target schools have been
selected, R1 devises a sophisticated application strategy for them, based on the applicant's
unique circumstances, which optimizes their chances for admission.
Résumé Preparation
The launch of the application process begins with résumé preparation. Unlike a
Japanese 'Rirekisho,' which is more of a personal profile, a professional Western-style résumé highlights
an applicant's background, responsibilities, and achievements in one page.
Recommendation Letter Preparation
Once R1 has determined who would serve as the most appropriate recommenders for the particular
graduate schools to which applicants plan to apply, it advises clients on the most efficient
and effective means to develop these documents.
Career Plan Development
R1 helps applicants to develop realistic career plans that are not only consistent with their
professional backgrounds, but also a "good fit" for the graduate schools to which
they are applying.
Essay Development
After an applicant's résumé and initial recommendation letters have been completed,
they are ready to begin the essay development process. R1 will assist its clients in the development
of competitive essays and/or personal statements.
Application Development
After the essays and/or personal statements required by a graduate school have been prepared,
then the final step before submission will involve the completion of the application form. The
application documents must be prepared with the same care and attention-to-detail as all of
the other materials submitted.
Interview Preparation
Depending on the particular graduate school, required interviews are generally conducted either
before or after one submits their application. Regardless of when, where, or with whom one interviews,
comprehensive preparation is the secret to success.
