Mr. Round established R1 in 2004. Prior to launching the firm, he worked in Japan for 9 years as an admissions consultant. Mr. Round advised young fast-track Asian professionals on career planning and graduate school applications, specializing in MBA applicants. He earned a distinguished reputation in the admissions consulting industry by placing hundreds of Asian clients in top-ranked business schools in North America and Europe. Prior to becoming an admissions consultant, Mr. Round worked as a consultant and corporate trainer for the University of Maryland's International Business and Management Institute in Tokyo and, while an MBA candidate, as a media services advisor, Asian trade mission leader, and export business matchmaker for the New York State Department of Economic Development in New York, Taipei, and Singapore. Mr. Round holds an MBA degree (International Marketing) from the University at Albany, State University of New York and a BA degree (Psychology) from the University of Calgary.

Ms. Round joined R1 in 2005. Prior to her appointment as COO, she worked as a marketing executive and consultant for high-growth technology companies in Silicon Valley. Ms. Round also provided admissions consulting services to MBA applicants and advised them on how to effectively market themselves to top-ranked business schools in North America and Europe for several years before she joined R1. Prior to enrolling in business school, Ms. Round worked as the General Manager of a private asset management company based in Western Canada and was in charge of its international portfolio. She holds an MBA degree (Marketing and Strategy) from INSEAD in France and a BA degree (French Language and Literature) from the University of Victoria.
