Native Chinese speaker

When my husband was selected as a company-sponsored study-abroad candidate, I decided to pursue a self-funded LL.M. program in the United States as well. However, because my native language is Chinese and my second language is Japanese, I had spent relatively little time studying English up to that point. As a result, my English proficiency was far lower than that of other applicants. When I took the TOEFL for the first time in May 2013, I scored only 65. Just as I was on the verge of giving up, I was introduced to Round One.

A very thorough consultation

I still vividly remember my first Skype session with Mr. Round. He conducted a very thorough consultation and, based on that, created a detailed and carefully structured schedule for me. This freed me from the vague anxiety of simply thinking, “I have to get a TOEFL score of 100,” and instead gave me clear, concrete goals right in front of me. The plan also showed clearly that by making step-by-step efforts, it was possible to ultimately reach my target. This gave me renewed motivation. After that, Mr. Round provided ongoing advice on study methods and introduced appropriate learning tools based on my TOEFL score distribution each time. Even when my scores did not improve as I had hoped, his encouragement always made me feel that I could still keep going. I believe this is truly part of Mr. Round’s personal charm.

Guidance covered everything

Above all, I must highlight the exceptional quality of Mr. Round’s essay counseling. It was not limited to checking the English in my essay drafts; rather, his guidance covered everything from content to overall structure. Drawing on his many years of experience as a professional advisor, Mr. Round helped me identify the key points that needed to be addressed and dig deeply into aspects of my background that I myself had not even recognized. As a result, I was able to complete an essay that was almost unrecognizable compared to my original draft in terms of quality.

First-choice program

Thanks to this support, I was able to gain admission to my first-choice program, the UCLA LL.M.

Mr. Round, thank you again for everything!!
