I chose Round One based on a recommendation from a colleague who had gone on to pursue an MBA in the U.S. ahead of me, as well as because I was looking for a service that could be provided online, since I was stationed overseas at the time. I was assigned to work with Emma. In short, Emma is a truly professional consultant who delivered value well beyond what I paid. I am convinced that without my encounter with Emma, I would not have been admitted.
From the very beginning of the service, I was impressed by and satisfied with Emma’s performance, personality, and professionalism, which allowed me to trust her completely and consult her about anything. She would decisively reject my interview answers with a blunt “No, no, no,” and when I revised an essay by adding my own ideas to Emma’s edited version and asked for her opinion, she would respond frankly, saying, “To be perfectly honest with you, my version was much better.” Her honesty was invaluable—she served both as an excellent pace-maker and as a mentor who gave me straightforward, candid advice.
There is inevitably a gap between the Japanese mindset and the perspective of admissions officers and interviewers, and I was often struck by how insightful and useful Emma’s advice was in bridging that gap. As a result, one interviewer even commented on my completed essay, saying, “Your essay is fascinating.” Emma was also extremely flexible with her time. I believe the reason I was able to complete applications for two schools—both of which required a large volume of work—in just over a month was not only because I had already done sufficient brainstorming, but also because I was fortunate to avoid the peak season. That said, I strongly recommend knocking on Round One’s door as early as possible.
Emma not only guided my essays and interviews to success, but also gave me the opportunity to deeply reflect on my own thinking, motivations, and the reasons behind my actions. My experience with Round One has been invaluable not only for the MBA application process itself, but also for writing, speaking, and thinking seriously about my future career. The application process is demanding, but life after enrollment will be even more so—keep that in mind, make full use of Round One, and do your best to persevere through the admissions journey.
