For anyone who is truly serious about pursuing graduate study in the United States, meeting Mr. Round is the greatest possible stroke of good fortune. With a candidate’s 100% commitment and Mr. Round’s guidance, I am convinced that almost any miracle can be achieved. Otherwise, there is no way that someone like me—who applied to graduate programs as a stepping stone from a corporate career to a research-oriented path—could have received offers of admission from seven academic graduate programs, including Harvard University.
The reasons I so strongly recommend Mr. Round are outlined below. My comments are based on my experience receiving Strategic Guidance and Essay Counseling.
Mr. Round’s counseling is outstanding—this single phrase says it all. After each counseling session, I was often deeply impressed by the clarity and strength of the direction I had received. Admissions committees review mountains of application materials, and the key to success lies in how clearly and compellingly an applicant can crystallize and convey their motivation for study and their individuality. It may sound exaggerated, but an application must contain something that captures the reader’s attention at first glance. Mr. Round possesses exceptional skill and experience in understanding each applicant’s motivation and personality, drawing them out, and expressing them fully and effectively on paper. Through counseling with Mr. Round, I am confident that applicants can produce truly distinctive application materials.
Mr. Round devotes an extraordinary amount of energy to each applicant. I believe that I was able to reach the finish line precisely because I had him running alongside me. We first met in June, and I decided to begin full-scale Essay Counseling in October. Yet even before then, Mr. Round spared no effort in supporting me—whether it was planning my test preparation schedule, arranging campus visits in September, or advising on email correspondence with U.S. professors. His support continued not only through the application season starting in October, but also through the final decision-making process—and even now, he continues to watch over and support the subsequent careers of the applicants he has guided.
Along the road to application, you may encounter many unexpected challenges. However, Mr. Round will never let go of your hand, no matter what happens. There were several times when I thought, “Even Mr. Round won’t be able to solve this situation.” Each time, he encouraged me, confronted the challenge together with me at full strength, and guided me back toward the original goal. I was repeatedly moved by his humanity and generosity of spirit. This consistent, sincere guidance is what sets his service apart from all others, and it is precisely why he has led so many applicants to success. Without hesitation, I encourage you to choose Mr. Round.
Communication with Mr. Round, centered primarily on email, is extremely efficient and highly effective. Some applicants may feel uneasy about counseling conducted via email. However, Mr. Round first takes the time to speak with applicants face-to-face, ensuring a solid mutual understanding before beginning email-based counseling. In addition, lectures and in-person sessions are scheduled at appropriate times, so I never felt any anxiety. While other prep schools strictly limit counselor sessions to fixed time slots, with Mr. Round you can collaborate at any time through email. This is a truly unique and unparalleled service.
In my field of application, interviews were rare, which made email-centered counseling all the more appropriate. In face-to-face counseling, information beyond the written word—such as tone and gestures—is exchanged. By focusing primarily on email-based counseling, I was able to devote myself fully to refining the written materials themselves, resulting in application documents that clearly and effectively conveyed what I wanted to say.
One thing I realized later was that Mr. Round treats every email exchange with applicants as part of the counseling process. With the exception of occasional light jokes meant to put applicants at ease, he consistently writes in formal English. Through this process, I naturally acquired the skills needed to write professional English emails to admissions offices and professors—an additional and very valuable benefit.
It has now been almost exactly one year since I met Mr. Round. I was well aware that applying to U.S. academic graduate programs without being enrolled at a Japanese institution was an exceptionally high hurdle. Understanding this fully, Mr. Round respected my determination to pursue graduate study and ran alongside me through this demanding year. I am deeply grateful to him for that.
In closing, I would like to offer the following words to those who have decided to study abroad: “Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” (By Calvin Coolidge) I sincerely hope that all of you will complete your applications without regret, and that your lives after studying abroad will be even richer and more fulfilling.
