Background

(At the time of application) Feed trading: 4 years, Sales: 3 years at an agriculture-related trading company

Application Timeline

December 2021: Selected for my company’s sponsored study-abroad program.

January 2022: Began studying for IELTS.

March 2022: Achieved the IELTS score required for applications.

April 2022: Began studying for GMAT. Contacted Mr. Round through a referral from a senior colleague at my company. After an initial meeting, enrolled in Round One. Subsequently held a Kick-Off Meeting to review the overall MBA application schedule.

May–July 2022: Focused exclusively on GMAT preparation; had no contact with Mr. Round during this period.

August 2022: Held a Strategic Guidance Meeting with Mr. Round to confirm the application portfolio, recommenders, and essay counseling schedule. From this point onward, essay counseling sessions were held once a week. My CV was completed within approximately two weeks.

September–December 2022: Prepared essays at a pace of approximately one school every three weeks. After obtaining a GMAT score suitable for application in early October, I conducted coffee chats with two to three alumni or current students per school to better understand each school’s culture and fit.

January 2023: Submitted applications to each school from late December through early January. Thereafter, conducted interview training sessions once per week. Received interview invitations sequentially and carried out mock interviews tailored to each school. Completed campus visits from late January to early February.

February–March 2023: Received admission offers sequentially (unfortunately, among the schools applied to, only LBS was rejected at the document screening stage).

Main Reasons for Choosing Round One

  • Several senior colleagues at my company had used Round One and were each admitted to their first-choice schools.
  • When I spoke with Mr. Round during my initial contact, I found him to be very gentle and approachable, and felt that we could maintain a long-term relationship both professionally and personally.
  • At the time of application, I was on assignment at a subsidiary in Fukuoka Prefecture, which made online communication essential.

What I Appreciated After Using the Service

  • The gentle and kind impression I had of Mr. Round at our first meeting never changed throughout the entire year we worked together. During periods when my test scores were not improving, I sometimes wondered whether I should lower the rank of the schools I was targeting. However, Mr. Round consistently believed in me from the very beginning, and as a result, I was ultimately able to enroll at my first-choice school.
  • Because Round One’s services are offered as a comprehensive package, support extended to extremely fine details—from essays and interview preparation to refining every word of emails sent to admissions offices. There were many aspects of the application process beyond essays and interviews that I did not fully understand, so being able to confirm things step by step was extremely helpful. Email responses were always returned within one day, regardless of weekends.

Areas for Improvement

  • While I received very thorough support, I did feel that the service was relatively expensive compared to other counseling services (although I understand that fees will be reduced starting from the 2023 intake).

In Closing

MBA applications are an extremely long and demanding process that requires perseverance. Having a partner you can consult with easily during such a journey is incredibly reassuring. I believe Mr. Round is a wonderful person well-suited to serve as such a companion. I recommend speaking with several counselors first, but I would certainly encourage you to include Round One among them.
