Overview

Admitted School: Boarding School (High School) – Cate School

Background: 13 years old (at the time of application), international school in Japan

Written by the mother (a former R1 client)

More than 15 years ago, I personally received tremendous support from Round One (R1) when applying to INSEAD for my MBA. Many years have passed since then, during which I experienced pregnancy, childbirth, and overseas transfers, and my child has now reached junior high school age. Motivated by my desire for my child to receive an education in a global environment from an early stage, and by my son’s wish to study in a more challenging setting, we decided this time to pursue admission to a U.S. boarding high school.

An extremely short timeframe

However, we made this decision only a few months before the application deadline, which meant that we needed to produce results within an extremely short timeframe. In addition, both parent and child were required to prepare and submit numerous essays, and competition for admission to U.S. boarding schools has become increasingly intense in recent years. Feeling quite overwhelmed, I recalled the excellent advice I had received from R1 during my MBA application and reached out to Mr. Round.

In practical terms, we had only about a month and a half—an exceptionally short period—but thanks to Mr. Round’s effective sessions and careful essay editing, we were able to compile the application materials very efficiently. Although boarding school application essays differ in nature from MBA essays, I am confident that Mr. Round provided appropriate guidance on whether we were effectively and strategically presenting the application from both the child’s perspective and the parent’s perspective.

A significant learning experience for my son

I did not sit in on my son’s sessions, but through Mr. Round’s careful guidance, my son was able to reflect deeply on his own school experiences—both successes and failures—as well as the person he hopes to become in the future, and translate those reflections into his writing. As a result, the application process itself became a significant learning experience for him.

First-choice boarding school

Thanks to this support, my son was admitted to his first-choice boarding school, and I sincerely feel that asking Mr. Round for his assistance was the right decision.

I would highly recommend his services not only for MBA applications, but also when considering overseas high school applications for (future) children.
