My long and difficult application journey finally came to an end with my admission to my first-choice school, Kellogg. Reflecting on this outcome, I truly believe that the single greatest factor behind my success was my decision to apply to Round One. I received Strategic Guidance (overall application strategy advice) from Mr. Round, essay counseling from Emma, and interview training from both of them—and I believe every one of these elements was essential to gaining admission to my target school.
Because I had no one around me with prior MBA application experience, the Strategic Guidance—where I could receive advice on the entire application process—was incredibly valuable. From selecting target schools to determining application timing and order, I believe I was able to apply effectively thanks to Mr. Round’s sound advice. He even reviewed details as fine-grained as thank-you emails to interviewers, which gave me tremendous peace of mind.
One piece of advice I am especially grateful for was his recommendation to retake the TOEFL. I personally felt that barely clearing the cutoff threshold was sufficient, but he advised that aiming for top schools required a higher score. As a result, I was able to achieve a highly competitive score. While I do not believe test scores alone can secure admission, this experience gave me confidence that I had done everything I possibly could, allowing me to apply with conviction.
I believe that essays are the most critical component of MBA applications. Admission is rarely determined by test scores alone, and without strong essays, one will not even be invited to interview. Essays allow you to thoughtfully present yourself as a multifaceted individual, but the more you work on them alone, the easier it is to fall into self-satisfaction and lose objectivity.
In this regard, Emma’s counseling was outstanding. From the initial brainstorming stage to refining how ideas should be delivered, she provided highly professional and effective guidance. Drawing on her extensive experience, she knows exactly what level of essay quality is required to be competitive. Receiving her approval that an application was ready to submit gave me the confidence to apply. (In fact, I received interview invitations from almost every school to which I applied.)
Before enrolling with Round One, I had struggled significantly with another counselor, so I experienced firsthand how dramatically the final output can differ depending on the essay counselor. Considering Emma’s experience and track record, counselors of her caliber are extremely rare, and I recommend her without reservation.
Interviews are not only the final hurdle of MBA applications, but also an area where preparation makes an enormous difference. Round One’s interview training provides highly detailed feedback on mock interviews in written report form, and once you become more comfortable, you can opt for sessions that focus on receiving targeted oral advice.
I repeatedly practiced on my own while reviewing the feedback reports I received, then returned to interview training for further refinement—repeating this cycle many times. I often hear that the importance of interviews has been increasing in recent years, and Round One offers all the resources necessary to support applicants at this critical stage.
Looking back on my application process, I can honestly say that choosing Round One was the right decision. Which prep service you choose can have a major impact on your results. While it is difficult to assess service quality before actually experiencing it, I am genuinely satisfied with Round One’s services and can confidently recommend them to others.
